Erica Wise - Cello

 

Erica Wise began her musical studies at the age of five, and  cello at the age of nine while living in Göttingen, Germany. She graduated from the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University studying with Ronald Thomas. She went on to complete a Masters Degree at the New England Conservatory studying with Colin Carr, Larry Lesser and Gary Hoffman. As a recipient of the Harriet Hale Woolley Scholarship from the Fondation des Etats-Unis, Ms. Wise studied baroque cello with David Simpson at the Conservatoire National de Région de Paris.

 

Ms. Wise is a founding member of the Dalia Quartet and Funktion.  She enjoys many chamber music collaborations, performing with aritists such as Kennedy Moretti, Lluïsa Espigolé, and the Quiroga and Henschel Quartets.  In the past years, she has been invited to Aspen, Tanglewood, IMS Prussia Cove and Yellow Barn Music Festivals and has toured with the New World and Baltimore Symphonies.

 

A passionate performer of the music composed during our lifetime, she has given both national and international premieres as soloist or as a member of Funktion of works by Yuval Gotlibovich, Damien Luna, Joan Magrané, Octavi Rumbau, Tristan Perich and Hanne Darboven, for example.  

 

Ms. Wise currently is Professor of Cello and chamber music at the Conservatorio Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona.
